The Senior Income Tax Manager is responsible for preparing and reviewing income tax returns and unclaimed property reports researching federal, state and local tax law, and leading complex corporate and shareholder tax planning, structuring and modeling. This individual works in a fast paced environment with high volumes of compliance and tight timelines, using his/her ability to solve problems, think abstractly, and pay close attention to detail to succeed in the position.
What You'll Do:
Leads area within tax accounting, including comprehensive research, high-level report/spreadsheet preparation, and in-depth analysis to drive accuracy and strategic tax planning.
Manages and mentors a team responsible for reviewing, investigating, and resolving complex tax entry errors and inconsistencies, collaborating with government officials and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and resolve any issues.
Directs the preparation and review of tax returns for monthly, quarterly, and annual filings, ensuring the tax strategy aligns with company goals and legislative requirements in a high volume and fast paced environment. Attention to details in calculations and the preparation of forms by the team will be necessary, along with the ability to manage executive communication around status and complexities within the forms.
Coordinates and manages tax audit processes, compiling critical data to support audits and ensuring RaceTrac's compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Partners with senior leadership to address any audit-related concerns.
Collaborates across departments, including Construction, Accounting, Supply/Distribution, and Legal, to design and implement tax strategies that optimize business processes and ensure the correct collection and application of tax data.
Interprets evolving tax laws and assesses company policies, providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership and business units to ensure tax filings and operations comply with changing legislation.
Proactively monitors and stays current with industry trends, tax legislation, and best practices, advising the company on potential risks and opportunities for tax efficiency and planning. Advising the company will require research of the current and proposed laws along with modeling cash flow implications at the corporate and shareholder levels.
Oversees the training and development of tax team members, while ensuring proficiency in advanced tax software (such as OneSource and RIA Checkpoint) and other relevant tools to maintain high-performance standards.
Evaluates and leads process improvements, driving efficiencies in tax processes, and implementing innovative solutions that align with RaceTrac's growth and strategic objectives.
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with a degree in Accounting
7-10+ years of income tax experience with 1-3 years preferred managerial experience, experience at the senior manager level in public accounting preferred
Must have an active CPA license
Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
Experience with OneSource, WorkDay and BNA Fixed Assets a plus
